Summer Internship Program

At RRMM, our internship program is designed to provide students with more than just a glimpse into the architectural profession. Through hands-on project work, mentorship, site visits, presentations, and collaboration with professionals across the firm, interns gain a well-rounded understanding of what it means to work in the industry.

The interns’ experience:

This summer, our interns – Bella, Maggie, Mariana, and Ryleigh spent ten weeks immersed in the day-to-day realities of architecture and construction. Providing them opportunities to experience each phase of the design process while developing skills that complement their academic studies.

From Ryleigh:

“I really enjoyed the OAC meetings and seeing how the owner, architect, and contractor all interact with each other. Also, I really enjoyed learning for the first time about all the bidding processes.”

From Maggie:

“In school, they focus a lot more on the conceptual software and BIM. At RRMM, they invested a lot of time to help us learn Revit. That was something that I didn’t expect. A lot of companies expect you to know it already or go in and figure it out on your own, but RRMM really supported that process for us.”

Throughout the summer, interns were encouraged to take ownership of their project while receiving guidance from mentors across the firm. Regular interactions with architects, designers, principals, sector leaders, and the CEO created an environment where questions were welcomed, feedback was constructive, and learning extended far beyond technical skills. The program emphasized not only design and documentation, but also communication, presentation, and professional development.

From Mariana:

“Jeremy Wright always gave me valuable and intentional feedback to steer me in the right direction.  It was always very positive feedback, yet he would tell me if I was wrong. I’ve always really appreciated that type of direct feedback.”

From Bella:

“Mark Probst said day one that RRMM was like a family, and that wasn’t just a line. I truly felt it! Everyone here has been super welcoming and super friendly, and I’m sure I’ll stay in touch throughout the school year.”

A recurring theme among this year’s interns was the impact of RRMM’s culture. Many came into the program expecting a traditional corporate office environment, but instead found a workplace built on collaboration, accessibility, and genuine relationships. Whether discussing project challenges, career goals, or future opportunities in the profession, interns felt supported by colleagues at every level of the organization. Ryleigh and Maggie both reflected on two mentors that made their experience worthwhile.

From Maggie:

“One of our mentors, Bill Boyce, consistently brings positivity, enthusiasm, and energy to the office. Likewise, my mentor, Josh Gerloff, played a significant role in my professional growth by instilling confidence in my design abilities and encouraging me to trust my instincts as a designer. His guidance reinforced the importance of staying true to my perspective while continuing to grow and refine my craft. ”

From Ryleigh:

“Working with Jeff Harris and Chris Phillips was a particularly meaningful part of my experience. They consistently made themselves available to provide guidance and help me work through challenges. Their ability to balance high expectations with genuine support created an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions, learning from mistakes, and continuing to grow. Their willingness to invest in my development showed me the value of approachable, supportive leadership.”

Management’s thought process behind the internship:

The internship also highlighted the importance of mentorship. By connecting interns with experienced professionals, the program created opportunities for meaningful conversations about design, career growth, licensure, and life after graduation.

Chris Crouch indicates that we are intentionally investing in the development of our next generation of professionals by providing meaningful hands-on experiences, facilitating job site visits, offering constructive feedback, and consistently encouraging growth and learning. While our interns are gaining valuable skills and confidence throughout the summer, the program is also creating developmental opportunities for our mentors, many of whom are experienced, mid-level professionals.

By stepping into mentorship roles, they are challenged to strengthen their leadership capabilities. Explaining the reasoning behind their decisions, sharing lessons learned, and leading by example requires them to be more intentional about their work. In many cases, this process deepens their understanding of the craft itself while helping them grow as leaders.”

For RRMM, the internship program is equally an investment in the future. Interns bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and an enthusiasm for learning that enriches the firm while providing staff with opportunities to develop as mentors and leaders. The exchange of knowledge benefits everyone involved and reinforces RRMM’s commitment to fostering the next generation of design professionals.

As we reflect on the Summer 2026 Internship Program, we are grateful for the energy, curiosity, and dedication our interns brought to the firm. Their growth throughout the summer was evident not only in the work they produced, but also in the confidence, relationships, and professional skills they developed along the way.

We are proud of all they accomplished and look forward to seeing where their careers take them next.
