VCU Sanger Hall.
Richmond, VA
As part of our term contract with Virginia Commonwealth University, RRMM, with our healthcare specialist, was tasked with designing a new Surgical Innovation Suite in Sanger Hall with a Research Lab for VCU. The existing building is older with low ceiling heights and infrastructure challenges. Part of the task included 3D scanning the entire suite to produce the most accurate as-built drawings. From there, RRMM endeavored to create an innovative space to support hands-on and tele-collaboration within VCU, VCUHealth, and with industry partners. The suite features Cath Imaging capabilities, three new surgery rooms, lab benching space, and an open office workspace for shared educational opportunities.
Space types within the suite include:
- Cath Lab
- Surgery Lab
- Small Animal Surgery Space
- Clinical Chem/Hematology Space
- ICU/Recovery Room
- Steril Storage
- Cadaver Storage
- Instrument Cleaning
- Admin Spaces – Offices, Conference Rooms, Locker and Changing Rooms, Student Study Spaces, Kitchenette
- Procedure Lab
- Cell Culture Area
- Reanimation Area
- Research Wet Labs
- Procedure Lab
This project was an 8,000 SF interior renovation within the famed Sanger Hall on VCU’s MCV Campus which also included adding a new Cooling Tower and HVAC unit to support the spaces.
