Chesapeake Regional – Elizabeth City Internal Medicine.

Elizabeth City, North Carolina

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare partnered with RRMM to consolidate and renovate three tenant spaces in an existing medical office building in Elizabeth City, North Carolina for a new Internal Medicine suite totaling 5,698 square feet.  RRMM’s scope of professional design services included architectural and interior design; mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering; and limited structural engineering.

During early programming and conceptual design, the owner requested partial demolition of tenant demising walls to improve efficiency of patient and staff circulation while also maximizing functionality with the existing footprint.  During subsequent field investigation, the design team discovered that one of the existing tenant demising walls was a load bearing partition supporting a mezzanine.  RRMM worked with our structural engineering consultant to design new structural infrastructure to support the mezzanine and to maintain the owner’s vision and program.  RRMM coordinated with the owner’s physicist for proper design and specification of the lead shielding requirements for the new X-ray room.

The full program includes twelve exam rooms, an X-ray room, a laboratory with drug testing, and various support areas.
