Location: Suffolk, VA
The two-story design is organized into two zones with public spaces located across the front of the building and three different grade “houses” along the back which are separated by a main circulation space. Classrooms and circulation space on the upper floor overlook the first-floor exploratory spaces. The circulation space can be used as an extended learning area for all students in the grade house. Located between each grade house is a secure courtyard where teachers can extend the classroom outdoors. Electives are located along main circulation space, which allows students from different grades to access the space without having to enter other grade houses. The openness, coupled with abundant natural light, present dynamic interior spaces conducive to a productive learning environment.
