Location: Hopewell, VA
The City of Hopewell commissioned RRMM to design the City’s first, standalone Policing facility. This facility recently opened in November 2019. RRMM worked closely with the City Police Chief and his staff, as well as the Director of Public Works to design a new, one-story building to house the City’s various policing functions, including but not limited to: Chief’s command suite, administrative/records offices, patrol platoon areas, roll call room, investigations bullpen and offices, interview rooms, property and evidence, and emergency consolidated dispatch center.
The new facility is sited adjacent to the existing City Hall from which it is connected by means of a pedestrian plaza. The exterior has been purposely designed to complement the materials, architectural style, and colors of the existing and nearby Beacon Theatre. The project design also included the provision of a new secure cruiser and staff parking lot, and a curbside warrant window. The interior layout of the new building includes locker and shower areas, a fitness room, a staff break area, and a large multipurpose room which can be utilized for training or by community groups. The public is limited to only accessing this multipurpose room and the main lobby; all walls enclosing these two rooms are reinforced with bullet resistant wall materials. All entries into the building are electronically controlled and visually monitored 24/7.
