Location: Fairfax, VA
Teamed with Shepley Bulfinch for the addition to George Mason University’s Fenwick Library located in Fairfax, VA. This facility is a 157,000 SF addition to the existing library and has achieved Silver LEED Rating. All floor levels of the new building align with the existing building floor levels, resulting in floor to floor heights of 13′-0″. A four-story bar of North/South orientation wraps around the West side of the existing towers, allowing entry into the facility, outside of library control, from the new library quad. The main entry is positioned across from Robinson Hall at the North West corner of the site. A five-story mass with partial basement adjoins the South facade of the existing building. The building is configured to minimize disturbance of the existing trees at the Southwest corner of the site.
