Large Vehicle Repair Shop.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

This new high-bay vehicle garage for the City of Virginia is a prefabricated metal building with an exterior designed to match the existing facilities on site. The 10,800 SF first floor houses the maintenance and repair operations for the City’s fire apparatus and other large vehicles. Additional first-floor spaces include a break room with a kitchenette, shower/locker rooms, two unisex restrooms, and an electrical area. The second-floor mezzanine, comprising the rest of the 12,736 SF garage, is used for equipment storage. The mezzanine area is accessed by either stairs or gates reachable via forklifts.

While Virginia Beach did not specifically require LEED certification, RRMM still incorporated sustainable design practices as much as possible. This included using regional materials and recycled content, installing energy-efficient mechanical and lighting systems, and utilizing daylighting. To help reduce energy costs, the roof has a white finish and exterior windows are tinted with insulated low “e” glazing.
