Joint Use Library
Virginia Beach, VA

Tidewater Community College and the City of Virginia Beach’s new Joint-Use Library is the first of its kind in the region. The primary goal of the project was to provide access to the growing collections of media and books of both the TCC and Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) systems, provide individual and group study areas with access to TCC and VBPL staff resources, and to offer access to state of the art electronic media and data available through the internet. An additional goal is to make the project a destination for residents so that all can enjoy the facility’s resources.

The technology-centric library hosts study rooms equipped with flat screens for student laptops; bibliographic classrooms with student computers and media presentation stations for instructors; collaboration areas with special furniture and software designed for group collaboration and more than 400 public access computers. The library offers plenty of space for quiet, individual study and reading along with meeting rooms, display areas, and a cafe.
